Our History

Our history is simple, really. Two foster families have come together in an effort to serve a greater number of children in the foster care system of Georgia.

We have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. Not only have we seen it, but we’ve been in the middle of all three at some point. Guided by God and our experiences as foster parents, we can relate to every single family we will recruit along the way. Not only us, but 60% of our Board of Directors have been, or are currently, foster parents as well. In addition to that, 50% of our founders and Board of Directors combined have adopted children out of the foster care system in Georgia. So, while our main focus will be the children in our care, just as important is the care and support we will give to our foster families.

At our core we believe it is a fundamental responsibility of the church to care for these children (James 1:27). That’s why our recruiting efforts will be aimed at those who follow Jesus Christ and call him Lord. Many mistakenly believe the needs of foster children are being met. The reality is far from it. Too many children have to be placed in homes far from their own and away from anything that might be familiar. Each county needs more homes available to accommodate the children coming into their care. And while counties may be short on available foster homes, they are not short on churches. So, it is to the churches we look to provide the needed homes.

The founders of Kaleo Family Services are not limited to only having our experiences as foster parents to guide us. Our Executive Director holds a Master of Clinical Social Work, and another member of our founding families holds a Master of Science in Brain Research. We believe that Kaleo Family Services is the perfect partner for those who will answer the call to care for Georgia’s foster children.
